Portage’s Headstone Honeys played the role of grim reaper to Winnipeg’s Bombshell Brawlers, destroying them 184-89 in roller derby action.

It was the Honeys’ second win in a row and showed a noticeable improvement from their first home game of the year.

Saturday night was a gang fight in the oval as both teams played hard and fast at the PCU Centre.  From the first whistle, bodies were flying and bouncing off the cement every lap.  Improved defence from the Portage side set up the offence all night and allowed the Headstone Honeys’ jammers to out-muscle and outscore the Brawlers at a two to one pace.

Fans were energized by the local teams fast start and increased physicality which provided an early lead they never looked back on.  Despite the lop-sided score the match was a hard-fought battle packed with big hits and heart-pounding crashes.  The full-contact match contained the most violence and hits the PCU Centre has ever seen in a two-hour span.

The Headstone Honeys’ next home game is scheduled for July 5 during the Portage Ex and an even larger crowd is expected during the fair.  The following weekend the PCU Centre will host a tournament July 12-13.
